Aislinn North

Detailed Writings Here!Aislinn was a misfit, born in Ala Mhigo. Well, she was reasonably sure she was born there. In any event, it’s where she grew up. Scrawny and weaker than the other children, she was either ignored completely or made a target of by the bigger children. She retreated into the world of books and at a young age discovered an aptitude for aetherical manipulation. She recalls her father being put-off by this realization and gruffly telling her to keep it to herself and practice it out of sight of others. Looking back, she supposes he was just trying to save her from further bullying. Physical prowess was what was valued in Ala Mhigo, not magic. Having never known her mother, this was her first inkling that maybe the woman hadn’t been of highlander stock at all.As the years went on and Ala Mhigo became occupied by Garlean forces, many of her peers grew into adolescence and became members of a growing Resistance. Her father himself was a general in the underground movement. And though Ala Mhigo had never been a friend of hers, it was still her home and she felt the patriotic urge to fight for it, the same as the rest of her peers. However, while they had grown until they towered over her, she was still the reedy, thin girl she’d always been, and an excuse was always found to keep her out of the fighting.Suddenly and without warning, her father woke her one night and, shoving a pack into her arms, told her to follow him. She did so without query. It wasn’t until they were well out of the city and the sun beginning to rise that she gave voice to the myriad of questions in her head. They were leaving, he said. Going to Ul'dah, a desert city in Thanalan. Fleeing, she corrected him. They were fleeing. Like cowards. The look he turned on her was one she had never seen before. Dark with an anger that bordered on rage. For the first time in her life, she was afraid of him. He must have seen it in her eyes for he turned away suddenly and let out a great breath. ‘I didn’t ask for any of this’ was all he said as he continued relentlessly through the wilderness, leaving her to follow in his wake.Ul'dah, Aislinn quickly learned, was a sinister city. In Ala Mhigo people were blunt but Aislinn always knew where she stood. Ul'dah was filled with doublespeak, people’s words like rope that twisted and coiled around you until you had enough to hang yourself with. Work was hard to find. She and her father were hardly the only refugees in the city. And after each long day of searching for jobs to no avail, she witnessed her father’s pride diminishing before her eyes. Finally, the only work to be found was as a gladiator in the pits. Fighting for the entertainment of the rich, many of whom had probably never touched a sword in their lives. Something in her broke to see such a man brought so low. She grew to hate Ul'dah.Left on her own, though this was nothing new, she took to the streets to earn what little coin she could. She found a niche as a runner for a cartel, being remarkably unremarkable had its perks in that she could reliably transport a variety of packages around the city without being stopped and questioned. She knew without being told never to ask what the package contained. Observant and ready to learn, she picked up a hodge-podge of skills from anyone willing to teach her. When her usefulness as a runner ran out due to obtaining an ugly scar across her face in a dispute with a rival, she was shifted to running the machinery for the cartel’s business. Hot and grueling work to be sure, but she learned a great deal and grew to enjoy spending her time with the machines, preferring them to people. Machines were reliable and straightforward. And so her days in Ul'dah passed in a haze of package running, machinery repair and the occasional, unavoidable scrap in which she’d inevitably be beaten down. Her wild, untrained ability with aether a distant memory that had no place in the sun-baked, visceral reality in which she lived. And then the Calamity hit. She thought the world was ending. In a way, it did, for the Calamity left a crater in her life where her father once stood. She was well and truly alone now. Unmoored and unsure, she heard Limsa Lominsa was looking for every able-body they could find to help rebuild. Ul'dah had given her nothing but pain and she had no love for the city. Perhaps it was time to move on.’Limsa Lominsa was a hive of activity and a world away from what she knew in Ul'dah. Here there was no monarchy. There was an Admiral who had won the honor through contest. Something Aislinn’s Ala Mhigan mind could understand and respect. The Maelstrom had been recently put in place to help bring order. More than this, they were taking almost any and all recruits. The promise of steady work was almost too good to be true. Aislinn signed up and worked a tour of duty, ironically finding her proverbial footing out at sea. After a few years, as an engineer and gunner's mate she honorably discharged at the rank of Lieutenant, Junior Grade. These days she’s earned a modest reputation in certain circles as a magitek researcher and aetherologist.

Aislinn is on the shorter side though she’s slender and fit from a life lived outdoors. Her most distinctive features are her red hair, which is usually pinned back just enough to keep it out of the way, and a scar across her face, just under her eyes. She carries herself with the quiet, earthy confidence of someone who is comfortable in her own skin and knows what it’s capable of.Her attire tends towards the simple and understated as if she’s trying not to attract attention. She eschews bright and garish colors in favor of subtle, muted tones. Instead of a distinct style, she will readily wear whatever is best suited for the city or destination in which she finds herself. She prefers to blend in whenever possible. Her expressions are subtle, a twitch of an eyebrow or slip of a smile is usually as animated as she gets. She’s soft-spoken, with a husky quality to her voice. Most people mistake this softness as weakness. Most people don't make that mistake twice.

Generally even-keeled with a steady hand. Aislinn is easily overlooked, she’s never the loudest or the most flamboyant one in the room, but loyal and steadfast to those she’s close to.
More often than not, she will put the needs of others above her own, even to her detriment.
She gives off a quiet and calm energy but does light up when she gets a chance to nerd out about one of her interests. Some see her quiet disposition as aloof but Aislinn was raised not to use seven words when three will do. As a child she spoke so infrequently that several adults thought her mute. And while she is well past that, rhetoric is better left to someone more eloquent than she. She still trips over her words or speaks in broken sentences when she gets flustered. In combat she is often underestimated due to her diminutive stature. But what she lacks in brute strength she's learned to make up for in speed, being quick and light on her feet has saved her many a time. She prefers to let her guns keep an enemy at bay but should one break through her defenses, she dances around an opponent, ducking, spinning and whirling with surprising grace until she finds an opening to shoot. An avid student of aetherology and engineering, she can usually be found around Heartwood's workshops or the med clinic brewing alchemical potions and tending patientsAnalytical and logical, Aislinn relates best to a person when they are frank and forthright. She has little patience for people who beat around the bush and half the time it goes over her head. She says what she means and she wishes others would do the same.

Tinkering
Have some piece of machinery on the fritz? A clockwork that’s gone haywire? Or maybe that gunblade of yours just isn’t shooting straight. Aislinn knows her way around a variety of magitek and only too happy to get her hands dirty repairing old pieces of machinery or devising new ones.
Ul'Dah’s Seedy Underbelly
Aislinn is no stranger to the street gangs of Ul'dah. She used to be a runner for a cartel during her time in the city. Though she’s left that life behind it’s possible she would be recognized by someone who traveled in the same circles.
Limsa Lominsa
Though the nature of her work has her frequently traveling, she currently calls Limsa Lominsa home. When she’s in town, she can usually be found in the Missing Member tavern, or lounging in the sun, her nose in a book.
Aetherlogical/Magitek Research
Aislinn is always up for talking about the finer points of aetherlogical study or magitek engineering and loves to collaborate on experiments or research.

Abandonment - For one reason or another Aislinn has lost everyone important to her over the years; childhood friends, mentors, family. She doesn't realize how much of an impact this has had on her over time, slowly chipping away at her willingness to open herself to new people. As a result, she tends to keep her distance, using her work as an excuse to maintain space.
The Dark - She had an unfortunate experience as a child at the hands of her bullies. To this day she can't sleep without the glow of a lantern or candle nearby.Black Magic
She once found herself on a mage's bad side. The harrowing experience left her convinced there is some knowledge no one is meant to possess.
Being Dependent
Spending years as a refugee in Ul'dah, Aislinn and her father were constantly reminded of how much their survival depended on those with the coin and the power. Ever since then, Aislinn has worked hard to make sure she's never at the whim or mercy of someone else ever again.

My Silver Lining

Bluebird

About the Player
I’m 30+ and prefer to RP with fellow adults. Pretty chill and patient, I’ll roll with most things though I would like the people I play with to be emotionally mature. I don’t have time for toxic behavior, people who can’t keep IC and OOC separate, tantrums or guilt trips.
I’m in the EST time zone. My weekdays are pretty busy between a full-time job and a side job that takes up a significant amount of time. I’m usually around a couple of weeknights long enough to run some roulettes or do some light RP but lengthy RP scenes would probably need to happen on the weekends or in Discord.I’m interested in plots and long story arcs, relationships that take time to build. I don’t really do tavern RP as my RP time is limited and I’d rather spend it building depth in story and character.I’m absolutely up for plotting a variety of previously established relationships or how our characters might know each other.I do love running all sorts of content and am happy to have people to run with. So if you’re looking for company for roulettes, maps, raids, etc. I’m there.
